BIO

Heather has always had a hand in the culinary arts and musical performance world. Beginning with her singing debut in the musical comedy “One Night in Paris” at the grand opening of the infamous Slipper Room in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Heather moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and became a mother in 2001, and graduated from the California Culinary Academy in 2003 with a degree in Baking & Pastry Arts.

Her passion for performance art led her to appear in her first San Francisco show at the legendary Empire Plush Room for a cabaret show titled “The Vava Voom Room” in 2004. She performed regularly at the SupperClub SF from 2007-2008 as the singer and entertainer. Sitting in at various SF Jazz Clubs led Heather to appear in their first show at Amnesia and in a tribute to Julie London at SF Capp Street Music Center for a SongBird Festival in 2009.

In 2010 Heather became a mother of twins and shifted her focus onto culinary adventures. These adventures ranged from selling chocolate at the Berkeley Farmers Market to writing recipes for Tofu You and El Cerrito Natural Annex, preparing and creating vegan, gluten free recipes at Moraga’s Home Made Kitchen in 2017, to producing gluten-free and vegan dessert recipes for locally owned catering company Pacific Fine Foods.

In 2018, Heather landed back on the mic singing again in the historic San Francisco North Beach restaurant Capos SF for a monthly gig. Leading into 2019, Heather became the MC at Berber, hosting the show, singing acapella and introducing the performers, ranging from belly dancers to aerialists. She rang in the 2020 New Year headlining SpeakeasySF’s NYE with her full band, Heather Thiel and the Aces.

As the pandemic hit the Bay Area and shut down all performance venues, live streams quickly emerged as the only form of live performance art. Heather began live streaming from her kitchen, baking a dessert live on the show while she sang acapella and discussed the current state of the crisis. The show became a musical conversation when she asked Aaron Kierbel, a celebrated Bay Area percussionist, to join her in the kitchen. The combination of Aaron’s humor and beats with the live discussion in all its playfulness began to transform the show.

Heather and Aaron took the show outside in order to bring her band back together safely, creating new opportunities for improvisation and collaboration. The transformation was complete when Heather accomplished the seemingly impossible task of pivoting to baking on the BBQ, spontaneously covering and creating songs on the fly, while hosting the show and talking about the issues of the day. Heather now hosts a weekly “Culinary Cabaret” celebrating the love of sharing recipes and music together. Just Add Heather!
